Not only are they better, but they are less likely to lead to your death. It’s win-win.
Who in their right mind would visit an unmapped and desolate military base in the middle of nowhere, where an attempt to enter can result in death when there are so many other cool places to see? It’s ludicrous. Save yourself from imminent death and make your trip to Nevada a wonderful adventure!
Valley Of Fire
Your experience of this majestic place depends on the time of day you arrive. Early mornings and late afternoons bring the vibrant red stones to life as you drive along the winding roads. Be sure to stop the car every once in a while to get out and witness the stunning natural wonders, and trekkers should plan their hiking in advance. Can you find the rock formation that looks like an elephant? Try the Fire Wave Hike if you’re limited on time, which will take you on a breathtaking journey through the valley. Be wary, though, this hike has limited shade, so pack plenty of water and consider an umbrella if you’re prone to sunburn.
Lake Tahoe
Would you believe that it snows in Nevada? Well, it does! It may sound like the world’s hottest place, but in some parts, it gets cold enough to sprinkle shiny white dust. You’ll see the snow prominently around the northeastern end of Lake Tahoe, which in itself is a stunning landmark. The pristine blue water matches wonderfully with the snow-capped mountainous backdrop. Head in during the winter with snow gear and brush up on your skiing or tobogganing skills.
Las Vegas
It needn’t be said, but you should highly consider Las Vegas. It’s an oasis in the middle of the desert, laced with impressive hotels and casinos, as well as some of the most amazing attractions. Wonder through the murals that sprawl across downtown Las Vegas or take to the Stratosphere, a casino hotel with a mini theme park 800ft (240m) above the bustling city. There are plenty of eclectic bars and theatres to visit, as well as the Fountains of Bellagio which are dazzling sight and the Adventuredome Theme Park to pack plenty of screams.
Hoover Dam
Yes, even a dam is better than Area 51. And the Hoover Dam is an architectural masterpiece. The design is an arch-gravity dam, which means the filling water provides great pressure against the concave structure, thus compressing the dam and giving it strength. Considering the dam can hold the largest capacity of water in the US, the strength is monumental. The Hoover Dam can be driven over and toured and can be seen from the adjacent Mike O’Callaghan–Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge.
Red Rock Canyon
Red Rock Canyon is another majestic landmark, sharing plenty of spectacular backdrops for exceptional photo opportunities. There are also plenty of treks to take, which show off the stunning hues that bounce off the sides of the mountains and cliffs. It’s like a scene out of a country-western film. If you’re not comfortable trekking by yourself, check out the Red Rock Canyon website for their regular group trekking experiences, from sunset hikes to snake exhibits and even bat viewing.
