What happens at the western-most point of Australia during winter? A food festival, of course!
Taste of Gascoyne Sunset BBQ
Join the Gascoyne Food Council and Carnarvon-born chef Stuart Laws as they host a sunset BBQ to showcase all the magnificent produce from the Gascoyne region. Set in the Carnarvon Civic Centre courtyard, this promises to be a wonderful opening night feast, with South American-style BBQ goat and lamb from Mundillya Meats, Meedo Station, award-winning Mundillya Homestead as well as seafood, local fruit and vegetables. The local community are chipping in too, creating special dishes that represent the diversity in Carnarvon.
Gourmet Island Escape
Think platters of Shark Bay prawns, plump scallops, juicy snow crabs, fresh whiting and pink snapper on an island paradise off the coast. Welcome to Dirk Hartog Island and their Gourmet Island Escape. Discovered in 1616, the island is one of the Coral Coast’s undiscovered gems, home to a beautiful ecosystem. With fresh fruit and vegetables flown in from nearby Carnarvon, visitors will feast on the freshest seafood and gourmet cuisine, produced by Russell Blaikie and George Cooper, two of the country’s leading chefs, in an authentic beachfront ocean to plate experience.
Fiesta de Quobba
135km north of Carnarvon is Red Bluff on Quobba Station, and it’s here where Head Chef Stuart Laws has established another delectable event, Fiesta de Quobba. It’s the perfect way to celebrate Red Bluff’s beauty with a glass of sangria in your hand. Guests will feast on Shark Bay seafood paella or a fresh Carnarvon veggie alternative, salads and of course sangria till the sun goes down. There’s also live entertainment to keep the fiesta going. Then, after a night’s camping, you’ll be served breakfast (with sea spray in your hair as a complimentary gift).
6-Course Craft Beergustation
We were sold when we heard “6-course craft beergustation”! This hoppy event will take place at Froth Craft Brewery, Australia’s western-most brewery, restaurant and live music venue. They will serve up a winning combo of toe tappin’ live music coupled with a gourmet feast that pairs each delectable course with a craft beer specially brewed on-site. French trained Head Chef Marie Fisher and British Columbian Head Brewer/Co-owner Tyler Little will personally present each course to discerning diners. There’s also a stunning view of Exmouth Gulf as an added extra. Even if you can’t make it for the Beergustation, this quirky brewery is well worth a visit.
Australia’s Biggest BBQ at the World’s Biggest Rock
Really take in the outback of WA at Mount Augustus/Burringurrah – the world’s biggest monolith (twice the size of Uluru). You’ll be served outback beef cooked on roaring open fire pits with locally sourced vegetables on the side. Head Chef Stuart Laws will be on the tongs; think juicy, rare beef steaks, tender ribs and a mouth-watering dessert created especially for this event. It’s also the perfect opportunity to explore this wild and unspoiled part of the world; a landscape full of natural wonders and unique flora and fauna. Even the drive there will be worth it.
