It all starts with a text, then a location, a sense of excitement, a sip, a mingle – and no, it’s not a Tinder date.
We’ve got a secret: an exclusive sitdown event filled with food-lovers alike, minus the arrogance or egotistical folk one may expect at an event with the word “foodies” in its title. There’s no judging panels, no critiques and certainly no cravats. Instead, you’re surrounded by a fabulous group of people of all ages, ready to mingle, drink sensational wine and feast upon an array of dishes which will have you wanting more. Better yet, it’s run by Ms Darlinghurst herself, the loveable and bubbly Alex Adams, one half of the dynamic duo behind Eat Drink Play.
We were lucky enough to experience the annual Christmas In July Secret Foodie event, and all we can say is – we’ll be heading back next year. With 110 Christmas clad guests chomping at the bit to crack their crackers, swap their Kris Kringle gifts and get stuck into the traditional English-inspired Christmas (thanks to the team at Butcher and The Farmer), we knew the lunch would be one to remember.
There’s something so refreshing about thrusting strangers together with one thing in common: a passion for food, along a table adorned in glitter masks, share plates and enough liquid courage to get people talking. In a world where we’re so connected (thanks to social media), yet so distant from those around us (again, thanks to social media), an event like the Secret Foodies is one which should be welcomed and experienced by all.
The best thing is that the events are always different, in style, theme and structure. From long lunches to dinners and cocktail parties, Alex and her team ensure the element of surprise never dies.
With events like the Italian Long Lunch, New York, New York, Secret Island Picnic, 1920s Spring Soiree and a Party Like It’s 1785, you’re in for a good time.
So without further ado, we’d like to announce an event or two – all of which we highly recommend you head to!
Pig and Swig
If you love Babe, look away. But if pork is your one and only when it comes to satisfying a rumbling tummy, then this event is for you. Suckling pig, pork belly, porchetta, ribs, gourmet sausages and more. There are endless ways to embrace this ultimate winter comfort food. Secret Foodies have found a hatted and Michelin-star chef who loves pig more than anyone. For one night only he’ll create a unique three-course meal showcasing his favourite succulent pork dishes. You’ll have boozy concoctions flowing throughout the evening and you’ll be squealing with excitement all the way home. Tickets include drinks and canapés on arrival, three courses + matching alcoholic beverages. Seats are limited.
Tatachilla Rooftop Beach Party
Secret Foodies are celebrating the first month of spring with a rooftop beach party! They’ll be partying all afternoon with flowing wines from Tatachilla, a stunning winery in McLaren Vale, one of Australia’s most unique beachside wine regions. Be the first to try their new White Admiral range including their light, fresh rosé and pinot grigio. The chef has designed a delicious, seasonally inspired canapé menu along with a lavish grazing table. There’ll be plenty of Instagrammable moments with stunning ocean views and a live band guaranteed to make you want to dance all afternoon. Be sure to dress in your best beach chic attire.
