If you have a taste for luxury, this Melbourne steakhouse takes the title.
If your tastebuds are tantalised by the world of fine dining, then get ready to slice into Australia’s most expensive beef wellington, found in the heart of Caulfield, Melbourne.
Welcome to the recently-launched MPD Steak Kitchen Caulfield. Led by executive, award-winning chef Chris Bonello; when it comes to quality service and produce in a stylish, relaxed environment, diners cannot look past MPD Steak Kitchen Caulfield – the newest steak restaurant to hit Melbourne’s menu.
Taking inspiration from Bonello’s Maltese heritage and his time spent in fine dining restaurants around the world, the Caulfield-found steakhouse prides itself on its simple and seasonal dishes.
The menu that features tempting treats including Lamb Cigars ($16), Popcorn Chicken ($16), King Prawns with Maltese toast ($22), Pork Fillet with brown butter jus ($36) and even a $80.00 600gram pasture-fed Great Southern Gold Ribeye; But, undoubtedly the star of the show is MPD Steak Kitchen Caulfield’s renowned signature Beef Wellington dish that’s just as decadent as what you’d expect.
The dish, priced at an impressive $120.00, not only takes the prize as one of Australia’s most expensive Beef Wellingtons; but it also cuts into its title as one of the longest to create. Needing 48 hours to prepare until served, this English-derived delicacy sees a marriage of beef fillet steak wrapped in a cooked-to-perfection golden puff pastry. Serving two, this masterpiece also comes served with two sauces and two sides. For this we’d recommend the Garlic Butter sauce and the Roasted Japanese Pumpkin ($13) or Truffle Mac and Cheese ($14).
If your visit is leaning towards an off-the-bone experience, MPD Steak Kitchen Caulfield also offer a mouth dropping 1.2-kilogram pasture-fed Tomahawk ($155) that sits gracefully amongst MPD’s expansive lineup of steak cuts including scotch fillet, porterhouse, wagyu rump and more.
As for tipples, guests can expect a collection of quality bourbon and scotch amongst their broad selection of locally sourced craft beers and ciders. The cocktail list is invigorating and adventurous, and the wine list, created by sommelier Marcus Radny, is 100+ strong with drops from local, sustainable and organic vineyards.
“A lot of research has gone into every dish on the menu,” said Bonello. “But my family were farmers in Malta, so using produce in season has been ingrained in me from a time when I helped my father harvest crops from the field.”
