Fun, fashionable and plenty of flair. Yes, we are talking about wine.
We happily welcome three new fashionable, stunning reds into our lives thanks to the adventurous wine brand Young & Co. As winter truly makes its presence felt, you can’t help but give in to a little temptation, just a splash of the good stuff to take away the chill. But, The Jam shiraz, Cherry Bomb pinot noir and Berry Riot grenache, do a lot more than that. The three new flavour sensations, wrapped in bold and pop-art -esque labels, pack a punch, highlighting the sweet and velvety flavours of cherry, raspberry and blackberry. Not sweet like a dessert wine, not too rich like a full-bodied wine, but the perfect balance of style, sass and curiosity. The tasteful drama you want in your life.
Despite the very affordable price point ($25) and youthful design, quality is still an absolute staple for the Constellation Brands New Zealand label. The grapes have been sourced from some of the finest wine regions in the world, including the south of France and at home here in Australia – McLaren Vale.
So, let’s get to the point – what do we think of them?
The Jam – McLaren Vale shiraz
The Jam is a rich shiraz with a glorious attitude evoking an abundance of fruit flavours. This wine has flavours of blackberry and dark plum, accompanied by a playful hint of sweet oak and spice. Jewel-like in colour, it throws tones of deep ruby red. The aroma is an enticing blend of ripe blackberry fruit, mocha and spice. A big tick in our books.
Cherry Bomb – French pinot noir
Cherry Bomb is a flamboyant pinot noir that oozes French flair. From the south of France, Cherry Bomb is a wonderfully stylish fusion of colour and flavour, vibrant red in hue and flaunts flavours of raspberry and dark cherry with a perfectly rounded mouthfeel that welcomingly lingers well after the flavour explosion. With pinot noir as our favourite red, we could be a little bias, but this truly is worth a taste (or two).
Berry Riot – French grenache
Berry Riot is a grenache bursting with style and sass, as one would expect from the French. Abundant with the aroma and flavour of red berry fruit, this wine offers a seamless and elegant structure. Wonderfully balanced with a lovely length to finish. Another delicious drop!
But it doesn’t stop there.
The Young & Co Australian launch also includes the introduction of ‘Super Fresh’ – a range of delicious emerging wine varietals from exciting international regions. These Super Fresh red wines are also available in BWS nationally, and retail for $20 (RRP), while the Super Fresh white wines will launch later this year. There’s the Zinfandel, a stylish little number with rich and robust notes of blackberry and blueberry from California; the Tempranillo, a fresh and fruity drop from Spain as well as a Malbec from Argentina, which is a deep purple colour and has a distinctively rich character made up of black cherry, plum and blackberry.
