Mexican food. Margaritas. Melbourne Cup – say no more.

Perth locals can relish in the festivities and celebrations of the Melbourne Cup when Rockpool Bar & Grill opens its doors to a three-course Mexican bonanza this November.

The Melbourne Cup is an iconic and historical day in the calendar for many Australian’s. For those outside of Melbourne, it has become much more about where to watch and celebrate with friends than the racing itself. It is therefore great news for Perth locals who can now celebrate in style when the bar at the Rockpool Bar & Grill is taken over by popular Sydney restaurant and tequila haven Bar Patrón. For $125 per person, guests can expect a three-course shared menu with a choice of four delicious desserts and three zesty margaritas for which Bar Patrón is famed for.

Rockpool Dining Group Culinary Director Neil Perry said the Mexican pop-up from Bar Patrón was an exciting addition to the Rockpool Bar & Grill Perth for Melbourne Cup Day celebrations.

“We are thrilled to bring a taste of Bar Patrón to Perth for Melbourne Cup. The menu is ideal for a celebratory lunch – it is fun, vibrant, and bursting with quintessential flavours,” he said.

To begin the dining experience, guests will be served crunchy tortilla chips with guacamole and house made tostadas with seared tuna, avocado, cherry tomatoes, coriander and peanuts. This is followed up by their Mexican fried-chicken before finishing with the holy grail of Mexican food and a Bar Patrón staple: tacos. There will be two options for tacos on the day including fish tacos with sour cream as well as pico de gallo or beef tongue tacos with peanut salsa, green tomato, red onion and coriander. These meals can all be enjoyed with Bar Patrón’s classic margarita which is a mix of Patrón silver tequila, orange citronage and lime – a popular choice amongst the Sydney crowd.

On the day, the desserts include a tres leche cake topped with white chocolate and raspberries; a corn-husk meringue pavlova with cream and passionfruit; a dark chocolate and Espelette chilli ice cream sandwich; or a lime mousse with caramelised pineapple compote and coconut. All of this can be enjoyed while watching the Melbourne Cup races which will be broadcast across large screen TV’s in the bar and restaurant.
