Want to move away from pine? Try these 5 alternative christmas tree ideas…
Most people are well aware of the traditional Christmas tree – a fake or real pine tree with baubles, tinsel or fairy lights (or both), and a collection of other whimsical creations from kindergarten craft classes. But a handful of people decided to eschew convention by doing something different. Inspired by the recent, Pinterest-perfect trend of dressing pineapples up as Christmas trees, we thought we’d look into all the delightful ways people play with the traditional notion of the pine tree, and see how you can recreate them yourself:
The litera-tree
Solve the dilemma of what to buy your loved ones for Christmas- they’re on the tree. Made of books stacked in a cone shape with baubles to add a festive touch, is perfect for a household who needs new reading material.
Bring up the baubles
Forgo the pine needles, and you’re left with this gently spiralling line of baubles. Use fishing wire of different lengths to hang the baubles in the shape that you want, and try green ones for the best faux-tree vibes.
Find a festive get up
A favourite of luxury retail stores, this is one look that’ll leave an impression. With a skirt made of pine branches, this mannequin is definitely ready for Christmas, and you can even make your own. We don’t advise turning yourself into a human Christmas tree, however. It might be a little difficult to move around.
Deck the halls with beer bottles
If you’ve gone a bit overboard on the beer this Christmas season, own up to it by making your Christmas tree wear the evidence. No matter what size bottle you have, if you have a lot of them, you can create your own stunning tree.
Lego and find a great tree
Keep your kids entertained by building a Christmas tree together – all you need is a veritable truckload of green bricks, plus some red and yellow ones to act as decorations. And if you’re in the mood for more projects, check out Lego’s range of Christmas goods.
Return to the Upside Down
Share your love for Stranger Things, own up to being the Grinch, or simply express how scrambled your mind becomes in December with this upturned tree. A nifty solution for decorating a small space, learn how to hang one of these seemingly physics-defying topiaries here.
Candy Creations
Make your sweetaholic loved ones go mad with this tree, which only needs a foam base and a hot glue gun in addition to a diabetes-inducing amount of candy. If you’re keen to try this out, let Martha Stewart teach you how.
