Just as spring has certainly sprung, so has the arrival of Good Food Month in some of our favourite Sydney-based eateries and bars.
Back bigger and better than ever, with over 40 events taking place this October in Sydney’s CBD and now more broadly across New South Wales, foodies can once more ignite their passion for the best delectable eats and drinks around town.
All in compliance with the NSW Government and NSW Health regulations and standards, this year, Good Food Month will be hosting everything from dine-in events to take home meal packs, virtual masterclasses and foraging through New South Wales’ Highlands; regardless of your passion, taste or availability, Sydney’s 2020 Good Food Month certainly is serving up something for everyone.
So, to help you tuck into your soon-to-be new favourite meal, we’ve found the top 10 things to do in Sydney for Good Food Month this October. Happy eating!
Pink Afternoon Tea
Throughout the duration of Good Food Month, The Fullerton Hotel Sydney will be hosting a Pink Afternoon Tea sitting daily from midday onwards. In support of the Breast Cancer Foundation with $5 from each set donated, guests of the Pink Afternoon Tea will be able to sit down, relax and indulge in a pink-themed afternoon tea in style. Served at The Bar, guests will be able to tuck into a range of sweet and savoury goods such as Raspberry Yuzu Delice, Lychee Yoghurt Rocher, Morello Cherry Mousse with Hibiscus Jelly, Tasmanian Salmon with Tsuyu and Ginger Flakes as well as Lobster Basket with Avruga Caviar.
Infinity Signature Experience by Mike Dierlinger
If you’re looking to take your tastebuds to new heights, then this is one Sydney Good Food Month event you won’t want to miss. Travelling up 81 levels above Sydney’s skyline, throughout the month of October the newest establishment to open at Sydney Tower, Infinity, will be hosting a seven-course degustation with matched wines crafted especially by head chef Mike Dierlinger. With guaranteed window seating to ensure that guests are treated to the best view, you’ll also be tucking into a heavenly menu that will certainly tantalise your senses. Expect dishes such as drunken chicken with yellow beetroot and burnt citrus and brioche, for example.
Good Food Month Dinner
If you’re looking for delectable dining served with modern flair, then Restaurant Hubert’s Good Food Month Dinner is sure to serve up a treat. Hosted every Monday and Tuesday throughout October, Sydneysiders are invited to the Bligh Street oasis to indulge in a four-course share-style menu that’s served alongside a rendition of live jazz music. Of course to appease your appetite, Hubert’s will have a range of all-rounder favourites including zucchini flowers stuffed with ricotta, Hubert’s chicken with bread sauce and green garlic and, let’s not forget the renowned chocolate mousse with hazelnut cream to finish.
Maybe Aria
In partnership with the finalist of 2019 World’s 50 Best Bar Awards, Maybe Sammy, Matt Moran’s Aria restaurant will be inviting the cocktail creators behind their bar every Wednesday evening in October to serve up a selection of bespoke cocktails. With many cocktails to choose from including Aria di Sammy, Fly Me To The Moon, Prosciutto e Melone, Mocambo, Circus Circus and Gran Finale; guests will be able to pair their visit with signature Aria snacks including Raw Scallop with potato and caviar as well as a Macadamia & Acacia Eclair. For the perfect start to late night hump day festivities, Maybe Aria will have you fixed.
Authentic Italian Pizza Masterclass
Hosted at Secolo Dining inside Legion House in Sydney’s CBD, this Thursday 08 October pizza lovers will be able to join Secolo’s piazzaiolo, Roberto Opipari, for an interactive and hands-on pizza masterclass. Learn about the different styles of pizza, prepare your own and dress your dough in your favourite toppings. Enjoy your creation at Secolo Dining with a limoncello and, when done, you’ll take home an ingredients kit to make a pizza again.
Wine Exploration
Starting from Saturday 10 October and hosted consecutively for the remainder of October, Little Red Robin Restaurant & Bar will be welcoming wine lovers to Lane Cove for a Wine Exploration event this Good Food Month. Each Saturday guests will be participating in a different wine type – Indigenous varietals, high altitude and more – and tasting their way through five wines with matched snacks. As well as that, ticket holders will then be gifted with their favourite drop to then take home.
Breakfast with Friends
We all know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but, when you throw in restaurant quality dishes and a mesmerising view of Sydney’s glistening harbour, then that is one breakfast you will never forget. Led by Cucinetta’s chef Vincenzo and joined by Jacqui Ektoros (ex-Three Williams, Devon Cafe and Bennelong), guests will be indulging in a four-course breakfast menu which features the likes of Gaytime French Toast, Baked Eggs with Smoked Sausage and an Open Egg Omelette with lamb to name a few.
Sunday Lunch
For one day only, heading out of the CBD and over to Coogee, this Sunday 18 October Sydneysiders will be tantalised for one of, if not the best Sunday lunch they’ve ever experienced. Hosted by Estate’s chef Matthew Butcher and in a collaboration with Clove Lane’s Emile Avramides, together the duo will be serving up a food coma worthy four-course family-style menu to Estate for a special long Sunday lunch.
Virtual Peat & Meat
If you’d rather let Mjølner come to you, then this Tuesday 20 October you can do just that with their Good Food Month Virtual Peat & Meat event. Streamed by Mjølner’s head chef Joachim Borenius, for one night only Sydneysiders can enjoy a three-course Nordic-inspired feast that is matched to four 50mL peated whiskies. Here you’ll learn everything there is to know about these four drops thanks to Mjølner’s whisky guru, Alex Dahlenburg all whilst devouring the likes of Roast Bone Narrow, Beef Short Rib and Poached Pear to name a few. Bookings close Friday 16 October.
Highland Valley Forage
If you’d rather get out and about, over two days in October Sydneysiders are invited to Wildfest’s Highland Valley Forage. Just over a two-hour drive north out of the Sydney CBD, guests will be welcomed by Nick Gardner from Hampden Deli and the team at Birch from the Highlands to experience a special lunch menu using local produce. With two trails to choose from – a four-and-a-half-kilometre walk with a eight-course degustation or a nine-kilometre walk with a 10-course degustation – guests will be strolling leisurely along the guided trail before tucking into a decadent meal surrounded by the regenerating bush and blooming spring wildflowers. This is one event not to miss.
