Palace Cinemas has announced it will be opening a brand new 12-screen cinema on Moonee Ponds’ Puckle Street.
The new venture will house three platinum screens and 620 seats, as well as an outdoor cinema space. It will feature blockbusters as well as independent new release films alongside seven specifically curated film festivals throughout the year.
This will be the eighth Melbourne complex for Palace Cinemas as the company follows their demographic with a shift to the west. The cinema will be part of a stylish retail, hospitality, accommodation and leisure development by Giancorp Property Group right in the heart of Melbourne’s inner West.
“We have longed for a home in Melbourne’s West for a while now,” says Palace Cinemas CEO, Benjamin Zeccola. “Our audiences had expressed that there was a real market gap in cinemas delivering a premium experience and offering quality film in that area, so when the opportunity arose to be part of a stylish new development in Puckle Street it was perfect – and where better than the birth place of Australian culture queen Dame Edna Everage!”
For Founder and Executive Chairman of Palace Cinemas, Antonio Zeccola, the rising popularity of streaming services such as Netflix, Stan and Foxtel Go is not something that comes as a threat to the company. “While the way people consume films has evolved, cinema will always be able offer an experience that is incomparable to Netflix or Stan. We don’t see cinema as competing with streaming platforms, rather we are competing with other experiences that offer an affordable and entertaining night out,” says Zeccola.
With new cinemas recently confirmed for Melbourne’s Old Pentridge Prison in Coburg, as well as Sydney suburbs Double Bay and Chippendale, and Raine Square in Perth, Palace Cinemas is poised to introduce a wider audience to its unique combination of entertainment hospitality.
Construction on the landmark precinct is expected to begin in 2017 and completed in 2019, with Palace Moonee Ponds to open its doors in 2019.
