Described casually as vibrant and affordable, Tayim Deli is a modern interpretation of lunchtime casual meets fresh, flavoursome and fun.
Found tucked away amongst a laneway along the Nurses Walk in The Rocks, Sydneysiders will find Tayim Deli located conveniently next to its mother-restaurant, Tayim.
Opening its door to the public in early February 2019, Tayim Deli is the perfect stop for those starting their day through to lunch-timers or even visitors wanting a more fulfilling afternoon snack.
Middle Eastern inspired, Tayim Deli uses Sydney’s favourites such as labne, zaatar, wagyu brisket, falafel and seasonal fruit to create delicious sandwiches, salads and wraps.
Considering that the deli opted for a casual affair with their Middle Eastern style in takeaway form, the food is definitely far from this. Using herbs and spices found within the vast region, Tayim Deli praises their locally sourced produce that helps create some of their wildest creations.
From Black Forest Bacon ($9.50) teamed up with free range eggs, aged cheddar and tomato chilli jam for a breakfast offering, or their scrumptious Three Grain Salad ($12) packed with chard broccolini, pomegranate and puffed rice as a lunchtime salad.
Like its neighbour Tayim, Tayim Deli is run by Head Chef Ran Kimelfeld. Naturally, Kimelfeld was inspired by his heritage to construct some of the delicious creations found in store. Using his mother’s Libyan heritage and his simple love for North African flavours, guests will be able to source out Middle Eastern inspired street food snacks.
Upon your visit, opt for the renowned Fresh Made Falafel ($12) that sits elegantly inside of a pita pocket. Once biting in the warm sandwich used as its foundation, you’ll find the pickles, tahini and tomatoes tucked perfectly inside the incredible pouch all decorated with a coat of sauce. The falafel itself was decorated in a crunchy shell; inside was a moist combination of chickpeas, beans, herbs and spices – by far, the best falafel we’ve had.
Unlike most Middle Eastern inspired venues in Sydney, Tayim Deli is fresh-faced with its minimal décor. Dressed in its heritage sandstone like most of its neighbours in The Rocks, the deli itself has a simple and relaxing atmosphere. The true highlight and beauty is in fact found within the vibrant food created, all housed within the giant glass cabinet displays.
Inside the venue, although its size is particularly small, guests are more than welcome to use the terrace area to enjoy their meal – all overlooking the cobblestone street.
Tayim Deli is a venue that’s easy to miss, one wrong turn or blink and you’ll miss it. But we guarantee, that once you visit, it will surely become a favourite for any craving throughout the day.
Whatever your reason to visit, if you’re searching for a relaxing lunchtime spot that’s tucked away and hidden from the raging crowds, Tayim Deli will definitely be your new go-to.
